Six workers have been injured in Abu Dhabi after the tyre of a minibus burst, causing the vehicle to swerve off the road and overturn.

Abu Dhabi police said the accident happened on Monday near Icad bridge on the road heading in to the capital. Police and ambulances attended the incident.

Fourteen workers were in the minibus at the time of the crash. Six suffered moderate to severe injuries and were taken to Al Mafraq Hospital by helicopter.

Maj Abdullah Al Qubaisi, head of the traffic control department, said that initial investigations showed that a rear tyre had exploded, causing the accident.

Police advised motorists to check the tyres of their vehicles to ensure their own safety and the safety of others, especially during the hot weather.
