ABU DHABI // Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, has praised the sacrifices of the heroes who died while defending the UAE.

“The loss of our brave servicemen is painful to us and to their families. Despite the great loss, we are proud of them and of their heroism,” said Sheikha Fatima on Monday during a visit to Wahat Al Karama, the memorial site created to honour the fallen servicemen.

She said Commemoration Day, which will be celebrated on Wednesday, was “a day of glory to the whole country and to the mothers of the martyrs who gave us those gallant heroes,” reported state news agency Wam.

Sheikha Fatima also praised President Sheikh Khalifa’s decision to mark the November 30 each year as Commemoration Day.

She added that the initiative of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to establish the Martyrs’ Families’ Affairs Office at the Court of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, showed the attention he paid to the sacrifices of the heroes and the care he gives to their families.

She also paid tribute to the Emirati women for their service to the country.

“The UAE women are keen to serve their country, in military, home, school or office. They are the mothers of our heroes who made sacrifices to keep our flag high,” she said.

She expressed her sympathy for the families of the heroes, adding: “We are deeply grieved by their loss, but consoled by the fact that they are rewarded with paradise for their sacrifices. Their memory will always be alive in our hearts.”
