DUBAI // An accident between "many cars" has caused traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road to drop to a standstill.
The incident, around the Ibn Battuta mall area, heading towards Jebel Ali, caused tailbacks for commuters around 8.20am this morning.
"An accident has been reported on Sheikh Zayed road between many cars opposite bin Batota station towards Abu Dhabi," according to a Tweet from Dubai Police.
Emergency crews were on the scene. Police were trying to control traffic flow as paramedics treated the injured.
At around 8.30am, one car was in the second lane and a second, silver-coloured car was severely damaged near the central reservation.
A spokesman was not immediately available for clarification.
"Very serious accident on Sheikh Zayed Road," wrote one Twitter user, Bunty Tiwari. "White colour car crashed, driving girl saved."
Another Twitter user, Reem Abulleil, said that traffic had started building up in the Abu Dhabi direction from JLT.
"Avoid if you can," she wrote.
