Abu Dhabi Fund for Development
Owned by the Abu Dhabi government, the fund was set up on Sheikh Zayed’s orders in 1971. It assists developing countries by providing concessional loans for projects. It has given almost Dh13 billion to 207 projects in 53 countries. It has also supervised Dh10bn of loans and grants offered by the Abu Dhabi government.
UAE Red Crescent Authority
Founded in 1983 as the UAE’s main relief and aid agency. It is in step with international policies of non-alignment, non-intervention and independence. The Red Crescent responds to emergencies and takes part in health and humanitarian projects abroad. It has supported projects in more than 100 countries and is chaired by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed.
Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation
Established in 1992 to back philanthropic causes and provide public utilities in the UAE and internationally. It provides study grants and scholarships and supports hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centres, first aid centres, childcare centres, orphanages and care homes. It has funded medical and cultural centres in all continents, and offers relief to disaster victims.
Zayed Giving Initiative
Founded in 2003, the initiative organises local and international humanitarian volunteering for health, environmental, educational, cultural and community services. Its 50,000 volunteers have helped more than 100 million people in the Mena region.
