Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, yesterday continued his tour of the Northern Emirates with a visit to Ras al Khaimah and Umm al Qaiwain.

In Ras al Khaimah, he visited Sheikh Khalifa Specialised Hospital, which is funded by a grant from Sheikh Khalifa, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Sheikh Saud bin Saqr, Ruler of Ras al Khaimah and Supreme Council Member. The pair said health care was a top priority for Sheikh Khalifa, who wants to ensure the highest standards of health services for citizens.

The Dh1 billion facility, scheduled for completion in early 2012, is considered the largest specialised hospital in the Middle East, with an area of 6,500 sq metres.

Its six floors accommodate 248 beds but this will eventually increase to 400 beds. It is equipped with a cardiology, tumour treatment and emergency department, among others. It also has service facilities, two helicopter landing pads and 640 parking spots.

Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Saud also visited the Institute of Applied Technology in Ras al Khaimah where they were briefed on the programmes offered to its 640 students.

They discussed the role of such institutes in developing the nation's youth and helping them to meet the employment needs of the labour market.

In Umm al Qaiwain, Sheikh Mohammed met with citizens from the Northern Emirates. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, the National Security Adviser, was also present.
