DUBAI// Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting innovation during a tour of the Dubai Canvas 3D Art Festival 2017.

Now in its third year the festival showcases the 3D artwork of 25 Emirati and international artists.

The Shiekh Mohammed, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai said innovation was essential for future success and will not only allow the UAE to enhance its global profile but also further peace and understanding between people and nations.

The UAE seeks to achieve this through various initiatives that have served as incubators for innovators in various sectors, he said.

Mona Ghanem Al Marri, director general of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO), briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the new additions to the festival, which is being held at City Walk and organised by Brand Dubai.

During the tour, he viewed the exhibits of the four local artists taking part in the festival.

Participating artists are also competing for the Dubai Canvas 3D Art Award, which features prize money of Dh2.3 million.

Sheikh Mohammed praised the launch of the award, the world’s first to recognise excellence in 3D art, which in turn reflects the UAE’s determination to support innovation and creativity.

He highlighted the importance of initiatives and projects that reflect the UAE’s modern outlook and help foster local talent, as well as raise the UAE’s profile as a cultural and knowledge hub.

During his tour, Sheikh Mohammed took a photo with those taking part and members of the organising team.

Ms Al Marri expressed her gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed for the continuous support for innovators and artists, which she said is the main reason behind the success of the event.

She said that Brand Dubai is committed to continue enhancing the festival in support of Dubai’s journey of innovation and creativity.

The festival is run in partnership with Dubai holding company Meraas.
