Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed meets UAE Special Olympics team - in pictures

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince received athletes at the Qasr Al Bahr majlis

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on Monday received the UAE's team of people of determination who took part in the Ninth Special Olympics Regional Games in Abu Dhabi last month.

They were joined at the Qasr Al Bahr majlis by the organising committee of the Games and the UAE Special Olympics board of directors.

Sheikh Mohammed congratulated the team’s athletes for their achievements during the Games and other regional and international sporting events.

He also praised the role of the organising committee and the cooperation between local, regional and international authorities, which resulted in a sporting event that fitted the UAE’s regional and international stature. He then called on everyone to continue their efforts to greater accomplishments during the UAE's Special Olympics World Games next year.

Sheikh Mohammed said that people of determination are appreciated and are a source of pride and honour for the country, state news agency Wam reported.

The Special Olympics Regional Games hosted athletes from 31 countries who competed in 16 sports held in eight locations in the capital, Abu Dhabi. It represented the biggest sports event organised before the Special Olympics World Games to be hosted by Abu Dhabi in 2019.
