The country's leaders have thanked the people of the UAE for their contributions to the nation's prosperity ahead of the new year.

On Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, wished the Emiratis and residents a happy New Year and thanked those who made the world a 'better and happier" place.

“Brothers and sisters,” he tweeted. “As 2017 comes to an end, we proudly look back on the accomplishments we achieved and the challenges we overcame; thank you to everyone who was part of our success. We say thanks to everyone who was a part of these achievements and who was a part of the UAE team. We thank all who contributed to making our world better and happier.”

He posted the New Year’s greeting on Twitter on Sunday afternoon, wishing people a prosperous 2018 and to “reach new heights of success and achievement” in the year ahead.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed said, "We welcome the new year 2018, Year of Zayed, year of loyalty and gratitude to our founding father. Our wish for our beloved nation is more progress and prosperity. We also wish our brotherly and friendly nations more peace and stability."

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces thanked the people of the UAE for their contributions over the past year.

"The journey of giving led by [UAE President Sheikh] Khalifa in 2017 has made great achievements. Thanks to the people of the UAE for their efforts and constructive contributions to the nation's prosperity," he said on Twitter.

"With the advent of Year of Zayed, newborns are joining our nation and we pray to God Almighty to grant them health & wellness— they are the sons and daughters of Zayed and are our hope for the future."
