The first round of the Giants Endurance Challenge, an equestrian competition, was attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The 120km race, which featured 84 riders, took place yesterday at Dubai's Emirates International Endurance Village, in Al Wathba, state news agency Wam said.

While some royals watched the event, others, such as Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, took part.

The race was won by Ali Al Jahouri, who was representing Al Wathba Stables. According to the official website of Sheikh Mohammed, the winning prize consisted of a Bentley car and cash. The win was the second in almost as many days for the Al Jahouri family, with Mr Al Jahouri's teenage son, Khalifa, taking first place in last Friday's 100km Endurance Cup for Private Owners.

The challenge is organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
