Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the Foreign Minister, attended the UAE national football team's training drills at Al-Najma Club in Bahrain today.

Sheikh Abdullah met with the management, technical staff and members of the team who are participating in the 21st Gulf Cup of Nations in Manama.

He praised the achievements of the UAE team and stressed the importance of sports placed by the country. He said the national football team was being cheered on by President Sheikh Khalifa.

"Gulf sports events create competition and at the same time provides rapprochement among us all," said Sheikh Abdullah.

"There are no differences among the peoples of Gulf states. We all have the same nature and we all love each other. This is one of the aims of this big sports event."

He commended the work of the team's coach, Mahdi Ali, and asked them to continue engaging in international competitions.

Mohammed Sultan Al Suwaidi, UAE ambassador to Bahrain and Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed bin Khalid Al-Nahyan, chairman of the board of Al Ain Club were also present at the drill.

UAE will play Kuwait in the semi-finals tomorrow.
