The ruler of Sharjah has donated more than Dh7 million to repair a building at the University of Cairo damaged in the recent unrest as part of ongoing initiatives to support Egypt.
Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi gave Dh7.4 million for repairs and to buy much needed equipment at the university's Faculty of Engineering, which was severely damaged by a fire during the dispersion of protestors in al-Nahda Square.
The donation is one of a series of initiatives launched by Sheikh Sultan in support of the country and its people during the ongoing crisis, reported WAM, the state news agency.
A number of mosques are also being built in villages in the North Sinai town of Rafah on the orders of Sheikh Sultan. Each of the mosques will be named after the Egyptian soldiers killed in a terrorist attack on Monday.
As well as the new mosques, modern houses and public parks are being constructed for the residents of 18 slums in Giza City.
Once completed, ownership of the new houses will be transferred to residents.
