Sharjah Police seize more than Dh15m worth of drugs and arrest 19 in bust
Police arrested 19 drug traffickers in Sharjah on Wednesday and seized 20kg of heroin and more than Dh15 million worth of crystal meth.
Brig Saif Al Al Shamsi, commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police, said the suspects, of Asian descent, used social media to promote drugs and sell drugs.
“They work in a very systematic and organised manner to promote drugs in Sharjah and other emirates,” he said.
The announcement was made at Sharjah Police headquarters where Lt Col Majid Al Aasm, acting director of the Sharjah Police anti-narcotics department, revealed details about the operation dubbed “co-ordinate”.
“The department received a tip off about the drug trafficking gang,” said Lt Col Al Aasm.
After tracking the men down, police arrested the first suspect and seized 15 bundles of heroin and crystal meth.
Police said that, under questioning, the suspect told them of an accomplice who was consequently arrested at his home where 77 bundles of drugs were found.
The task forces tracked down the remaining members of the gang and managed to arrest them all,” Lt Col Al Asm said.
