Sharjah plans for Ramadan taking shape
Sharjah is gearing up for its 20th annual Ramadan Festival, featuring, among other things, an exhibition of crafts and furniture at the Expo Centre. Organised by the municipality and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the festival runs from August 22 to October 3, the state news agency, WAM, reported. More details about activities and programmes of the 42-day event are expected to be released next week.
Meanwhile, the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has started distributing food coupons to 1,167 needy and low-income families who registered for help in buying food during Ramadan. The RCA has also received a gift of dates from the UAE Embassy in Colombo for Muslims and orphans in Sri Lanka. The UAE Embassy in Pretoria is also helping to feed communities in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe with donations of dates, which will be distributed in collaboration with various Islamic organisations.
