Two motorists were flashed by police traffic cameras traveling at over 210kph in Sharjah.
The incidents took place in areas that are usually crowded with pedestrians, said Maj Gen Abdulrahman Khater, Director of Sharjah Police’s traffic awareness department.
“One driver was caught speeding above 231kph before Suhoor and another caught speeding above 214kph, said Maj Gen Khater.
“We urge drivers to abide by speed limits and not to over speed,” said Maj Gen Khater.
On the first ten days of Ramadan, Sharjah Police fined a total of 483 motorists for not abiding by traffic rules, including driving recklessly, not paying attention to the roads, over speeding and other violations, according to Sharjah Police.
Mr Thomas Edelmann, founder of Road Safety UAE, advised people who are fasting to take it easy and leave early to avoid speeding.
“By the end of the day and before Iftar, people want to go home or a restaurant to break their fast and rest. Their bodies are dehydrated and do not react the same way. However, there is no point in rushing.”
