The Sharjah Statistics Centre (SSC) today launched the first field phase of the social and economic survey of the emirate's nationals, the Wam news agency reported.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, SSC Director General, said the survey would provide accurate and reliable demographic, economic and social data and indices on Sharjah emirates' population. He said this would help the government to raise living standards through well-planned and well-informed development plans.

The survey, Mr Al Thani said, would target Emirati citizens in its first phase and then expatriates to obtain accurate population, socio-economic, health and education data for each member of every family living in the emirate.

He said a second 18-day phase would be rolled out on March 3 to gather detailed information on households.
