Sharjah consumers to see 70 per cent price reductions thanks to Dh30m Ramadan fund
Sharjah Co-operative Society's The Month of Good will help lift the financial burden of a rising cost of living on consumers
Dh30 million has been allocated for a Ramadan campaign that will reduce the prices of 1,000 basic commodities by upto 70 per cent.
Sharjah Co-operative Society said the campaign, called The Month of Good, will help lift the financial burden of a rising cost of living on consumers by offering high-quality commodities at competitive prices, including rice, cooking oil, chicken, poultry products, meat, as well as canned foods and other Ramadan items.
The Co-op’s general manager, Majid Salem Al-Junaid, said they have made all the necessary preparations, ensuring the basic needs of consumers will be covered at its 34 branches.
“We expect a 45 per cent increase in sales during [Ramadan], therefore we will secure all the food and commodities that might be needed in enough quantities.” said Mr Al-Junaid.
The reductions will start this Thursday and cover 715 commodities, while the remaining discounts will start on the first day of Ramadan.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Coop’s headquarters in Sharjah.
Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy, who was present at the press conference, said that public and secret inspections will be conducted to make sure that outlets across the country are committed to the reductions they announce.
He called on community members to take part in these inspections by reporting any violations to the department by calling 6005225.
