Major General Mohammad Al Suwaidi, the Director of Dubai Prisons, has announced that the Dubai Prisons Humanitarian Section has helped the release of more than 70 prisoners over the past three years.
Thirty inmates were released last year, seven in 2010 and another 34 inmates in 2009, he told the state news agency Wam yesterday.
Financial contributions collected by the humanitarian section raised Dh604,275 in 2011.
Furthermore, Maj Gen Al Suwaidi added that 3,040 prisoners had been released by official amnesties over the past three years.
