A seven-year-old Emirati girl drowned yesterday in a seven-metre-deep pit filled with rain water in Wadi Shaam area in Ras Al Khaimah.
The chief of Al Rams police station in RAK, Colonel Suleiman Mohammed Al Kizi, said rescue officers and civil defence were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the report, but the child, identified as Sheikha Ali Mazboud, was already dead when her body was pulled out of the pit.
The pit is used as a well to gather rainwater for irrigation and is closed off to the public by a fence. The deceased was playing with siblings and friends around the well when they found the fence door unlocked and went in to play in the water.
