Seven arrested after jet-ski team attack

Six Kuwaiti athletes claim they were assaulted with sticks.

DUBAI // Seven Emiratis have been referred to Public Prosecution after an alleged scuffle with a Kuwaiti jet-ski team.

The men, all in their 20s, were arrested on Saturday after a fracas involving six members of the Kuwaiti team, who were in Dubai for the fourth round of the UAE Jet Ski Championship at Umm Suqeim.

The incident prompted Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to demand a full investigation, the state news agency Wam said.

Police arrested four of the men at the site. After questioning them, they arrested the other three.

Police said they were investigating whether the fight was part of a feud.

The Kuwaiti team members, all between 17 and 20 years old, told police a group of men had attacked them with sticks.

"Police immediately intervened but the team members had already suffered minor injuries," said Maj Gen Khalil Al Mansouri, the head of the Dubai Police CID. "The victims have now been discharged from Rashid Hospital."

Maj Gen Fahad Al Fahad, the president of the Kuwaiti Sea Sports Club, thanked police and the leadership of the UAE for their prompt action, Wam reported.
