SHARJAH // A conference to be held at Sharjah's police academy next week will focus on security education in the Arab world, the first gathering of its kind in the region, according to organisers.

The Arab Police Institutes Forum will discuss the quality of security education in Arab security institutes on Sunday and Monday, Maj Gen Mohammed al Hudaidi, the Sharjah Police director general, said yesterday. The gathering is being held in partnership with the Arab Administrative Development Organisation, an arm of the Arab League.

"The forum aims to clarify the basic concepts of the quality of education in Arab police colleges," Maj Gen al Hudaidi said. "It will also enhance the Sharjah police academy's position among Arab police colleges."

The forum will include the best minds in Arab security presenting and discussions on major issues in that area, said Col Salem Jarwan al Naqbi, the police academy's director general.

Training institutions including Egypt's Mubarak Police Academy, Saudi Arabia's Naif Arab University of Security Sciences and Kuwait's Saad al Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences, will be represented at the event. A book fair concentrating on security-related issues will also be featured at the conference.
