A building security guard used a spare key to let himself into a tenant's apartment in order to rape her mentally ill teenage daughter, a court heard.

The 21-year-old Pakistani allegedly carried out three sex attacks on the woman while her mother was away from home.

Dubai Criminal Court heard that the 52-year-old mother of the girl had asked for the locks to be changed after learning the guard had another key in his possession.

The 18-year-old told her mother about the alleged crimes after she grew concerned at a change in her behaviour.

“I moved to the apartment in Al Rafaa area in February last year and the guard gave me the key, keeping a spare one in his possession," said the Iraqi mother.

“I wanted to change the lock but he insisted that it was fine.

“Since we moved to the flat, she was always crying and had lost her appetite, I didn’t know why and in September, I decided to try and talk to her to find out what was wrong.”

Her daughter confided in her that the guard had been coming to the apartment in her absence.

The following day, the woman lodged a complaint against the accused, who was arrested a day later.

A medical report issued last November from Rashid hospital confirmed the teen suffered from a mental illness that prevented her from knowing right from wrong.

"She is not to be held responsible for any of her actions," the report stated.

In court, the accused, denied charges of rape and trespassing.

The case is due back in court on February 20.
