An EgyptAir flight to Cairo from Abu Dhabi was delayed after a passenger triggered a security alert that forced passengers to disembark from the plane.
"The situation is very much under control," said Ahmed Al Hadabi, the chief operating officer of Abu Dhabi airport. "We have followed national and international procedures in these circumstances."
The aircraft and its luggage were searched and the passenger was questioned in accordance with routine security procedures.
"For the safety of the passenger and for the safety of the aircraft we take it very seriously," Mr Al Hadabi said. "We treat it seriously and we implement the rules and regulations as required."
Passengers were later allowed to re-board the aircraft.
