Second arrest over Houston shooting of Emirati

A teenager has been arrested in connection with the murder of Emirati military officer.

Murder squad officers have arrested a second man in connection with the fatal shooting of an Emirati military officer in Houston, Texas, last week.

Capt Salem Saif Al Mazroui was shot dead on August 7 in the home he shared with his father, who was in the US for cancer treatment.

Members of the Gulf Coast violent offenders task force arrested the second suspect, Corey Trevon Perry, 17, of Houston, on Saturday, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Detone Lewayne Price was arrested at his home on Thursday, a Houston Police Department spokeswoman, Jodi Silva, said. Both men have been charged with murder.

Mr Al Mazroui, 28, and his father had returned from prayers and left their car idling outside their apartment to unload groceries when two men forced their way in. As the two Emiratis tried to flee, three shots were fired and Mr Al Mazroui was killed.

Investigators found fingerprints on the vehicle, which the robbers used to make their escape before abandoning it.

Mr Al Mazroui was in the US to support his wheelchair-bound father as he received treatment for cancer. The family is from Adhen, a village in the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah.
