Emergency services from three emirates have launched a land and air search for a motorist reported missing after being swept away in flash floods in Ras Al Khaimah.

The 40-year-old man was driving a mixer truck when he was caught up in the devastating floods in Wadi Al Quor, in the southern part of the emirate on Tuesday.

Police from Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi and the Dubai Air Wing helicopter team launched a search operation on Tuesday evening, resuming on Wednesday after their efforts were halted by bad weather.

RAK police said that the driver lost control of the wheel when he was trying to cross the Wadi in treacherous conditions.

“The water level started to rise and that caused the vehicle to veer off the road and deteriorate,” said RAK Police in a statement.

The National Search and Rescue Centre has joined the search operation along with teams from Abu Dhabi and Dubai Air Wing.

Heavy rain lashed parts of the country on Tuesday, causing flooding in several areas.

The National Centre of Meteorology has said the rainfall could continue until Thursday.
