Four hundred Emiratis have collaborated on 170 projects picked for the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development’s Think Science competition this year.
The competition is aimed to inspire Emirati youth to choose science for their studies and careers.
Hundreds of project proposals were submitted by school and university students across the UAE.
The chosen entrants will be judged by a jury of university lecturers and business professionals. Winners will be announced on April 23.
The foundation was overwhelmed by the number of entries, including some from the Western Region and Northern Emirates.
“A large promotional programme was launched by the foundation to attract as many entries as possible and uncover the UAE’s scientific talents among students in the 15-24 year group,” said Maytha Al Habsi, its chief programmes officer.
Thirty-three of the 170 selected projects were submitted by seven universities, including Emirates University, Zayed University, Khalifa University for Science and Technology and Sharjah University.
The contest was supported by the Ministry of Education and Abu Dhabi Education Council, and sponsored by Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority and Siemens.
The foundation runs a Think Science Ambassadors project to inspire youth to develop knowledge and analytical thinking, and Think Science Connect, linking youth with scientific opportunities in the industry.
