DUBAI// Weather experts are predicting scattered showers over Abu Dhabi and eastern and northern areas of the country on Thursday.

Commuters reported rain between Dubai and Abu Dhabi at around midday today and experts have confirmed more could be on its way at the weekend.

"There was some light rain between Abu Dhabi and Dubai near Jebel Ali today followed by an increase in cloud cover," said a weather forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) in Abu Dhabi.

"We are expecting some more rain on Thursday in Abu Dhabi as well as the eastern and northern areas."

He said rain was caused by a trough in the upper atmosphere that had come into contact with weak low pressure on the surface.

This in turn caused unstable conditions and resulted in the rain.

The cloud cover during the day is also lowering the day time average temperatures to around 35C in coastal areas and 36C inland.

Evening temperatures over the next few days are also expected to be mild with lows of 16C inland and 21C along the coast.

"This type of weather is not unusual at this time of year because we usually see a transition period to cooler weather," said the official.
