Sandstorm delays Al Ain Aerobatic Show

The opening of the three-day show is now scheduled for Thursday at noon.

AL AIN // The opening of the widely anticipated Al Ain Aerobatic Show tomorrow will not proceed as planned, due to the sand clouds shrouding the UAE and reducing visibility, organisers said.

The opening of the three-day show is now scheduled for Thursday at noon.

The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and the UAE Armed Forces, the joint organisers of the annual show, yesterday insisted that weather would improve and that the show would open to the public on Wednesday, despite cancelling the preview day on Tuesday.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) had predicted that sand clouds would settle by yesterday afternoon, but visibility continues to be down to one kilometre in some areas, due to brisk, south-easterly winds blowing up sand and dust from the Empty Quarter across the UAE.

It has been hazy and partly cloudy in Al Ain and its surrounding areas, said a spokesperson at the NCMS, affecting horizontal visibility.

This year's air show has more than 15 aerobatic and display teams from three continents scheduled to take part.
