Sailor tells Dubai court 2,500 Tramadol tablets were for personal use
DUBAI // A sailor accused of smuggling 2,480 tramadol tablets told a court yesterday that the pills were for his personal use.
AS, 36, from Iran, was arrested on February 27 this year after Federal anti narcotics agents searched his vessel and discovered the tablets.
Customs officers said he confessed that he had been paid Dh500 by an Emirati he met in Iran to deliver the drugs to a man in Dubai. Officers said that shortly after he confessed he changed his story and said the drugs did not belong to him.
A forensics reports found that finger prints taken from the tablet packets matched those of the sailor.
The sailor denies a charge of smuggling drugs with intent to sell.
The next hearing at the Criminal Court was scheduled for October 22 to appoint a defence lawyer.
