SHARJAH // A hospital chief yesterday called for safer building sites after a construction worker fell to his death.

The Sudanese man plunged from the 10th floor of a building in Ajman on Friday afternoon after the scaffolding he was working on gave way. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body taken to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital.

Dr Abdul Karim Al Helmi, director of the accident and emergency section at the hospital, said the man suffered multiple fractures and a serious head injury.

He said construction accidents accounted for most emergency incidents the hospital dealt with, and urged site engineers and building owners to implement better safety measures.
