The forum is a precursor to 2014's International Road Safety Forum, which will also be held in the capital.
Road safety forum to be held in Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI // The Abu Dhabi Road Safety Forum will be held at The Ritz-Carlton in the capital on May 21.
Part of the UN Global Road Safety Week, the forum was developed by Abu Dhabi Municipality in collaboration with US-based International Road Federation (IRF).
"We need, locally and regionally, to put more effective legislation into place, enhance enforcement, and better understand those who are at most risk to road accidents," said Eisa Al Mazrouie, the acting executive director of the Municipal Assets and Infrastructure Sector at the civic body, in a statement published by state news agency WAM.
Government officials, contractors and consultants will discuss emergency management, safety strategies, and public education among other topics.
Abu Dhabi has recorded an 18 per cent reduction in fatal road accidents over the past three years since implementing the UN Road Safety Collaboration's Decade of Action for Road Safety guidelines.
