Retired teachers get Christmas present as pensions paid
Overdue pensions for 60 retired teachers and administrators working at Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Gharbia schools are to be paid tomorrow.
The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) has announced that the money will be transferred to the former employees' bank accounts on December 25.
Dr Mugheer al Khaili, director general of Adec, said in a statement that processing the payments had been delayed as the responsibility had been shared by three authorities; the Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi Fund for Pensions and the Abu Dhabi Retirement Pensions and Benefits Fund.
He said each authority had to ensure the accuracy of data regarding leave and allowances owed before payment could be made.
"Moreover, some retired staff did not submit the data and certificates required which contributed to the delay," he said.
To reduce red tape, the administrative responsibility for all 14,000 staff working at educational zones in the Abu Dhabi emirate has now been transferred to Adec.
Pension applications can now be submitted to Adec by teachers and administrative staff each January.
