Abu Dhabi Municipality has warned residents against using unlicensed butchers.
Officials stressed the advantages of Government-owned abattoirs and said street butchers lacked the professional skills and health standards for proper slaughtering.
They cited concerns that unlicensed operators could be a source of disease and pose a threat to public health.
The municipality also urged residents not to slaughter animals at their homes. Khalifa Al Rumaithi, director of public health, said slaughtering in houses and on farms invites disease.
