Rescue operations totalling 1,260 working hours were carried out by RAK Ambulance and Rescue Section this year.
The time was reached through 24 rescue operations included handling vehicle falls, rescuing drowning victims, pulling sinking boats up, as well as ensuring the security of a number of water racing games.
Brigadier Ghanim Ahmed Ghanim, head of the Central Operations Department at RAK Police, said that a beach safety programme is in place that aims to avoid drowning incidents, especially around popular beaches.
The programme also aims to keep beachgoers safe from heatstroke and fainting, he said, noting that the Marine Rescue Unit has three patrols per day - morning, evening and night - to ensure public safety and attend to emergencies.
