ABU DHABI // The UK’s Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team – popularly known as the world-famous Red Arrows – will perform in the skies over Abu Dhabi Corniche on Thursday.

The team, which includes nine display pilots and more than 100 support personnel and technicians, are in the UAE as part of their biggest overseas tour in a decade, which will take in 17 countries.

The performance, from 4pm, will feature UK-built aircraft to demonstrate the best of British innovation and industry, say organisers.

The jets can move to within two metres of each other during a display and the pilots can experience forces equal to 8Gs.

Squadron leader David Montenegro, team leader of the RAF aerobatic team and Red 1, said: “The Corniche, which is already hosting a myriad of Yasalam activities, will provide a wonderful, beautiful location to stage a Red Arrows display in Abu Dhabi.

“The whole team is excited to have the opportunity to perform again in the UAE, where we always have a great response.

“The event in Abu Dhabi is a tangible demonstration of the enduring, positive links between the UAE and the UK.

“The timing of the Abu Dhabi display is also a perfect prelude to a weekend of motorsport and a celebration of engineering excellence, speed and teamwork – qualities shared between aviation and Grand Prix racing,” he said.

“Indeed, the Red Arrows’ display of colourful, precision, formation aerobatics showcases British innovation and creativity.”

The display is expected to last about 25 minutes.
