Twenty-two websites have been shut down since January by Ras Al Khaimah Police for promoting drugs.

Police e-patrols tracked down and closed the sites which were found to be advertising and selling illegal substances to young people, said Col Adnan Al Zaabi, head of anti-narcotics police.

He said the websites facilitated drug consumption and tempted young people into taking drugs by showing them different methods of ingestion.

The e-patrols team also blocked a number of similar social media pages - operated outside of the UAE — through the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

RAK police said they will continue to vigilantly monitor the internet and urged the public to report such websites to them.
