Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit southern parts of the country in the next few days, the national meteorological centre says.
A sharp decrease in the temperature over Liwa yesterday, from 42°C to 24°C, was a factor in the tumultuous conditions over the region in the evening.
Temperatures yesterday were between 41°C and 47°C in the day, and 25°C and 31°C at night.
As has been predicted for the past few days, the weather worsened on Monday evening with winds exceeding 45kph, recorded by the meteorological centre's Mezaira weather station.
"The bad weather started late in the day, at about 6pm, because of low pressure that was centred to the south of the country and winds from the north and from the south," said a centre spokesman.
"Maybe today the rain will be a little later than yesterday. We do expect the formation of clouds in the southern region and on Thursday, yes, we do expect them to form to the east."
Although adverse conditions are common in the region, especially at this time of year, aircraft flying over the area should take extreme caution.
In other parts of the country, early morning commuters travelling between emirates were warned of patches of mist and fog developing.
Motorists paid heed to the warnings over the past few days, with no accidents reported on the motorway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai yesterday morning, said Lt Imran Abdullah, of the Dubai Police traffic department.
