Queuing is not for us, say UAE rock fans

Event organisers are up in arms as fans in the UAE expect to enter major concerts 10 minutes before the event begins.

Rock fans in the UAE love to turn up for concerts at the last moment - and this causes major headaches for promoters such as Done Events.

"There's a social awareness that needs to be developed in this country," said Robert Hodson, who is in charge of site management.

"People think they can arrive at 8.30pm for a 9pm start. They want to get in or out of that venue in just 10 minutes, and it wouldn't happen anywhere else in the world."

Thomas Ovesen, the chief operating officer at Done, added: "A person attending a Bruce Springsteen concert at Wembley Stadium in London would turn up three hours early to make sure they can park and get in and get a good seat. But the same person here wants to roll up half an hour before showtime and would complain if there were queues at the door. So there is a mentality issue there."
