Hundreds of millions of dirhams are being spent building schools and health centres as part of seven projects in Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah, the Ministry of Public Works has announced.
The ministry told Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National, that the projects are related to ministries of labour, health, interior and education.
Three of the projects, which are all in addition to those paid for by a fund set up by the President, Sheikh Khalifa, are worth Dh224 million.
The first is a Dh33m child and mother care centre in Sharjah, awarded to a contractor last April and expected to be completed by September next year.
There is now only one such centre in the emirate, established in 1972 by the Sharjah Medical Zone.
The second project is a labour office in Al Dhaid City, which costs Dh20m and is now nearly 90 per cent complete.
Then there is a Dh13m healthcare centre in Al Hamidiyah, Ajman, to be completed by next year.
The ministry said there were four projects – three for the Ministry of Education and one for the Ministry of Interior – under way in RAK at a cost of Dh91m.
The education projects are a Dh30m boys' high school to be completed by February, the Dh38m Shamal Primary School, due to be completed by April, and the Dh12m Kindergarten Al Shomou, which was started in May last year and is expected to be finished by next month.
The project for the Ministry of Interior in the Northern Emirates involves building a Civil Defence centre in Al Rifaa.
It was awarded to a contractor last month.
