Al Ain Municipality is to invest Dh100 million on a roads project designed to improve the living standards of residents in the region.

There has long been a demand to expand internal and external road and transport services.

Residents said the new routes and services would reduce traffic problems in the city and provide more parking.

Engineer Ahmad Al Daheri, project manager for the municipality, said the project has been divided into two phases, design and execution. It is expected to be completed in 18 months.

Mr Al Daheri said the project is in line with the authorities' vision of developing the city on modern lines. It is one of many in progress.

The first phase is scheduled to be completed in the last quarter of this year.

Mr Al Daheri said a number of facilities, like water and sewerage systems, electricity and road networks, and other necessary infrastructure, will be built with the cooperation of Abu Dhabi Sewerage and Al Ain Distribution Company.

The project also includes development of rain water drainage systems, pavements, communication lines, street lights and car parks.

He added that the work will also include development and improvement of services in South Zakhar, Zakhar Umm Al Qatta, Al Shaibiya, Al Aqabia, Al Saad, Al Markhania, Jaz Al Wareqa, and Al Wagan districts.
