Profiles: The 5 Guantanamo detainees transferred to the UAE

1. Khalid Abd Al Jabbar Mohammed Uthman Al Qadasi

Born in Taiz, Yemen, in 1969.

Assessed as a probable member of Al Qaeda which trained in Afghanistan.

After graduating from high school in 1987, he served one year in the Yemeni army from 1988 to 1989. Worked as a labourer for many years after the army and suffered from back pain as a result of his work.

Assessed as medium risk and recommended for transfer by the Guantanamo Review Task Force as of January 2010. Transferred to the UAE on Sunday.

2. Ali Ahmad Mohammed Al Razihi

Born in Taiz, Yemen, on October 13, 1979.

Identified as a member of Al Qaeda who received advanced training in Afghanistan.

Graduated from Madrassa Al Shab High School then studied the Quran in the hopes of teaching the illiterate how to read the holy book themselves. Worked part-time with his father selling fruits and vegetables and relied on his parents for basic needs and financial support.

Assessed to be a medium risk and transferred to the UAE on Sunday.

3. Sulayman Awad Bin Uqayl Al Nahdi

Born in Al Muqalla, Yemen, on December 1, 1974.

Assessed as being a member of Al Qaeda who participated in hostilities against the US and Coalition forces. He travelled to Afghanistan for jihad and attended training at extremist camps.

Studied at the Yemeni Military Academy in Busesh to become a police officer for one month but was dismissed because his services were no longer needed.

Sometime in 1994, he travelled to the UAE as a construction labourer for about 10 months.

He was assessed as medium risk and recommended for transfer by the Guantanamo Review Task Force as of January 2010.

Transferred to the UAE on Sunday.

4: Adil Said Al Haj Ubayd Al Busays (not pictured)

Born in Aden, Yemen, on March 12, 1972.

Fought with the Taliban in Afghanistan and was assessed as a medium threat in 2004.

Recommended for transfer by the Guantanamo Review Task Force as of January 2010.

Transferred to the UAE on Sunday.

5. Fahmi Salem Said Al Asani (not pictured)

Born in Mikala, Yemen, on May 17, 1977.

Trained in an Al Qaeda camp in Afghanistan and was considered to be a member of the group. Assessed as medium risk in 2004.

Recommended for transfer by the Guantanamo Review Task Force as of January 2010.

Transferred to the UAE on Sunday.
