DUBAI // Thousands of cinema fans crowded Vox Cinema Mall of the Emirates last night to catch a glimpse of the Bollywood stars Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor.

But they had a long wait.

Some had gathered at 5pm hoping to catch a glimpse of the actors, who eventually arrived on the red carpet after 10pm, more than two hours later than scheduled.

Chopra was wearing a sparkly off-white gown and stopped for only two minutes to greet fans with Kapoor. "Hello Dubai! Thanks for coming we are very excited to be premiering in here," she said, before quickly slipping inside the cinema. "We had a great time making the film."

Kapoor added: " It's so nice to be here in Dubai and we hope you enjoy the film."

The pair were in Dubai for the world premiere of their film Teri Meri Kahaani, before jetting off to attend the London and Toronto premieres.

The film follows two soulmates, each playing three different characters. Krish (Chopra) a successful actress and Radha (Kapoor) who plays a struggling musician and a poet, move back and forth in time through three love stories from 1910 to present day, only to realise they are made for eachother.

During a press conference earlier in the day, Kapoor described the movie as an "easier, breezier" project that moves away from typical dramatic love stories.

Due to a family emergency in India, Chopra missed the conference, but showed up on the red carpet. The pair were also scheduled to visit Al Noor Centre. According to Kapoor, the UAE is Bollywood's fastest-growing market after the US and UK.

"Dubai is usually the first place where Bollywood films are released and its always exciting to see the feedback. It is a fresh concept. A young, fun take on two lives considered soulmates," Kapoor asserted.

The director Kunal Kohli said creating the characters from 1910 was about bringing the "romance" of that era back.
