DUBAI // Close to 3,000 prisoners in Dubai visited the library this year, according to Col Adel Al Suwaidi, the director of the Inmates Education and Training Department at the Administration of Punitive and Correctional Institutions at Dubai Police.

Between them, 2,727 prisoners borrowed 12,784 books while 279 checked out audio recordings.

Speaking at the Gulf Unified Jail Inmates Week, Col Al Suwaidi also congratulated all involved in enrolling 39 inmates in night classes, 112 in scientific courses, 156 in vocational courses, 70 in crafts courses and 298 in Quran memorisation classes.

A further 866 inmates participated in athletic competitions, while 2,264 took part in athletic training, he said.
