ABU DHABI // Prayers for rain rang out from mosques across the country on Thursday in response to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed's call for Muslims living in the UAE to pray for much-needed rain.

Rulers, members of the Supreme Council and Crown Princes of several emirates were joined by residents and nationals as together they prayed Salaat al Istisqaa (prayer for rain) at 9am.

It is in keeping with the tradition of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) to pray to Allah Almighty to bless the land with rain, reported state news agency Wam.

Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region, performed prayers for rain, known as Salaat Al Istisqaa, at Al Noor Mosque in Al Ain.

The Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region performed the prayers, along with Sheikh Hazza bin Tahnoon, Undersecretary of the Courts of the Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region, and senior officials.

Prayers were also performed by Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, at the Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi Mosque, along with Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid, the representative of the Ruler of Ajman for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid, chairman of Ajman municipality and planning department, sheikhs, senior officials, citizens and residents.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, sheikhs, senior officials, citizens and residents performed Salaat Al Istisqaa at the Grand Eid Musalla.

Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, sheikhs, senior officials, citizens and residents gathered at the Omar bin Abdul Aziz Mosque for prayers for rain.
