A branch of a popular Filipino bakery in Abu Dhabi has been shut down for repeatedly failing to preserve food safely.

The bakery in the Al Muroor area near Madinat Zayed shopping centre was warned and fined four times over the past year before food inspectors finally shut it down.

Inspectors found the bakery “displaying ready-to-eat food in unsuitable containers,” said the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority.

"And there were a number of personal belongings in the food containers.”

It may re-open the bakery when the breaches are rectified, it said.

The offences were discovered during routine inspections.

"The authority calls on the public to communicate to them any violations they discover at any food facility...or when they suspect the ingredients of any food substance," the authority said.

The call centre number is 800555.

Panaderia bakery set up shop in 2008 in Mussaffah. It has 19 branches in Abu Dhabi and 14 branches in Al Ain, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah.
