Polling stations across the country will stay open until 8pm today, the head of the election committee announced.

Following technical problems in some of the voting booths in Al Ain and the Western Region, Dr Anwar Gargash, the head of the National Election Committee, announced that polls will stay open for an extra hour.

The extension would also ensure the largest number of participants, he said.

Dr Gargash said that so far the election procedures were going as planned. Large numbers of voters have already been recorded in all polling stations.
