DUBAI // A policeman verbally abused a woman and her mother at a petrol station then followed them to their home and continued to abuse them, a court was told.

Dubai Misdemeanours Court heard that AM was filling her car at a petrol station near Al Rashidiya Police Roundabout at about 8pm on December 9 last year. After she paid the attendant and waited for her change, AA, a police corporal, began to aggressively sound the horn of his car.

In her testimony, she said she feared for the safety of her mother, who was also in the car. The policeman then rolled down his window and said: "What, are you planning to sleep here?"

He then told her to get out of the car and he would "show her what he can do".

AM's 60-year-old mother said A A followed them home and started screaming at her and her daughter, and when another daughter tried to calm him down, he pushed her away and insulted her with inappropriate words.

AA, 29, denies a charge of issuing verbal insults. He claimed AM insulted him first and he followed her after he she disrespected his uniform.

AM did not appear in court for the first hearing.

The case was adjourned until August 18.
