Two men have been arrested for conning people out of money by promising to double it with chemicals and black magic.
Maj Mohammed Yafoor Al Ghafly, deputy director of Ajman police’s Criminal Investigation Department, said that after they were notified of the scam a police officer "posed as a man interested in doubling his money and arranged to meet the two suspects”.
The pair were caught in the act, and officers then raided the residence of the men and confiscated the materials they used to carry out the scam.
“This included a large sum of money and a black material, which they told their victims was essential to the process of doubling their money,” the major said.
The suspects confessed to the crime and said they had entered the county on a visit visa to carry out the scheme and overstayed their visas.
They were referred to prosecutors.
Police said they would not tolerate people entering the country to carry out crimes.
