DUBAI // Police have arrested a man in connection with a spate of burglaries in the emirate.

The man, whose identity was not revealed, allegedly carried out 16 burglaries in Jumeirah and Bur Dubai since he entered the country on a tourist visa in June.

General Khalil Ibrahim al Mansouri, the director general of inquiries and criminal investigations, said a team of officers apprehended the man near a Metro station and found him carrying cash, cameras, watches and perfumes.

He said the suspect confessed to scaling the walls of a residential villa in Jumeirah, forcing his way in, and stealing the items. Police later searched his hotel room in Naif and found a stash of mobile phones, iPads, and cameras, as well as large supply of jewellery.

Information leading to his arrest was supplied by a European resident living in the Al Safa area who fell victim to the thefts. The case is now with the Attorney General's office.
