A UAE-flagged and Arab-owned crude carrier held by Somali pirates since March 28 was released on Friday. All 29 officers and crew are reported to be safe and well, the Cairo-Arab Maritime Petroleum Transport Company said in a statement.
The tanker MT Zirku was held for 75 days after being seized off the coast of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden. The crew included a Croatian, an Iraqi, one Filipino, an Indian, three Jordanians, three Egyptians, two Ukranians and 17 Pakistanis.
Their families have been informed and all crew members will receive medical treatment if necessary.
