SHARJAH // Two pedestrians were killed in separate road accidents in Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah yesterday.

The first accident in Umm Al Quwain happened at about 9am when a Pakistani man was hit by a car while crossing Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Road in the Fallaj Al Mualla area, said Maj Saeed Obaid Al Eiran, the director of traffic and patrols at UAQ Police.

Police patrols and ambulances rushed to the scene but the man, identified as AWG, 41, was pronounced dead. The body was taken to UAQ hospital morgue.

Maj Eiran said the car's driver is being held by police to help with the investigation.

The accident in Sharjah happened at about the same time when an elderly Indian man was hit by a car as he was trying to cross Al Tawoon Road.

His daughter was among the first people to arrive at the scene. His body was taken to Kuwait hospital.
